We scan slides at 2500 dpi.
2400 to 2700 dpi is an optimum resolution for consumer slides. A higher resolution will reveal more flaws and chemistry structure. This often makes enlargements appear "grainy." Our scanning can give you about a five megapixel image, which will produce a quality 8x10.

Scanning Basics

Scanning and resolution are two of the most misunderstood aspects of digital imaging. A higher scan rate is not necessarily better.

300 dpi
If your images are 3x5 inches or larger and you never plan to enlarge to much bigger prints, then stick to 300 dpi resolution. Your files will be a manageable size for printing and sharing online.

300 dpi is also a higher resolution than the photos printed at those on-site labs in the local Wal-Mart or corner drugstore. Since those labs typically print photos at 260 dpi, our 300 dpi scan will be a higher resolution than the original print.

600 dpi
When should you scan at 600 dpi? If you plan to make enlargements or you have photos smaller than 3x5 inches. If you expect to crop your digitized images, then scan at 600dpi.

Don't worry. We'll figure it out.
If your order is mixed with different size prints, just let us know and our expert technicians will determine the best scan resolution for your individual photos.

TIFF or JPEG?
Once we have digitized your slides and photos, you have two choices of file formats. As a rule of thumb, JPEG is the best choice for consumer image files. JPEG is the most universal format. JPEG files are also compact, accepted at all photo labs, and JPEG's are easy to email.

TIFF files are generally used for professional applications such as commercial printing and graphic design. TIFF files are big, about five times larger than a JPEG file. Consequently, TIFF files require more storage space and often difficult to email or share online.

We can provide your images in either format. By default, we will deliver your files as JPEG format. On request, we will be glad to provide your images as TIFF files.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my photos, videotape & slides be returned?
Yes. Everything will be returned with your completed order. Movie film will be returned cleaned and spliced onto 400 ft. reels.

Can I make prints from my scanned images?
Yes. We save your images as JPEG files, the most universal format. Just take your disc to your local photo lab for prints. You can also email your image files anywhere. Online services such as Snapfish, Kodak Gallery and Shutterfly can produce photos, albums and calendars from your images.

Can my movie films, photo and slides be included on the same disc?
No. Since each scanning and transfer service is highly specialized, we cannot mix different media onto one disc. If you send us three types of media, you’ll receive three discs.

Can I have my images scanned in order?
Yes. Sort your images in stacks of 15 to 20. Wrap each stack with a rubber band. Use a post-it note and number each stack. We’ll keep them in order.

How long is turnaround time?
Normal in-lab turnaround is 3 to 6 working days, a bit longer during the holidays. Allow extra time for shipping.

Will the DVD be compatible with my player?
Our DVD’s will play on nearly any stand-alone DVD player. If your DVD player was manufactured after 2001 and reads DVD-R media (the most common type), it’s likely to play the DVD.

What is the shelf life of a DVD?
We use special, archival-grade DVD's with a projected life of over 100 years.

How do I place an order?
Download our PDF order form. Print it. Fill it out completely and sign it. Pack your materials. We suggest using zip-lock bags for your slides and photos. Use the packing boxes provided by your carrier—UPS, Fedex or US Postal Service.

If you’re in Atlanta, we offer pickup & delivery service, $200 minimum and limited delivery area. Call us for details and schedule a pickup.

Can I submit copyright material?
No. If you do not own the copyright of material submitted, it is illegal to make copies. Your order will be returned. Videotapes of TV programs are considered copyright material and cannot be transferred. Media containing obscene or illegal material will not be converted.
